Handbook for MortalsBooks
If you want some good clinical information from caring and enlightened physicians, this is a great book. The one thing to know is that the authors cover a broad swath of clinical conditions – so it’s not specific to dying in old age. However, I think Chapter 11, on deciding about medical interventions is extremely valuable. Very soon American families and the health care system are going to have to make really difficult choices and decisions that have significant implications for comfort, dignity and cost at the end of life. We should all be as informed as possible.
